'About Bobby Orr'

Bobby Orr is considered to be one of the greatest hockey players of all time. He played for the Boston Bruins and Chicago Black Hawks. In his first professional season Orr won the Calder Memorial Trophy as the league's outstanding rookie. In 1970 Bobby Orr did the unthinkable, doubling his scoring total from the previous season to score 120 points and becoming the first (and to date, only) defenceman in history to win the Art Ross Trophy as the league's leading scorer. On May 10, 1970, Bobby Orr scored one of the most famous goals in hockey history to give the Boston Bruins its first Stanley Cup in 29 years. Bobby Orr inspired the game of hockey with his command of the two-way game, which was unique for a defenceman. In a shortened career, Orr still won the Norris Trophy as the NHL’s most outstanding defenceman eight times, more than any other player in NHL history. On June 9, 1976, Bobby Orr signed with Chicago Black Hawks. Orr retired in 1979 having scored 270 goals and 645 assists in 657 games, adding 953 penalty minutes. Bobby Orr was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame at the age of 31 and his 4 jersey was retired by the Boston Bruins in January 1979. Orr was a Stanley Cup winner in 1970 and 1972. Besides the Stanley Cup, Bobby Orr captured the Norris Trophy, Art Ross Trophy, Hart Trophy, and Conn Smythe Trophy in 1970, the only player in history to win four major NHL awards in one season.
